Grant FAQs

How does my group apply for a grant?

Your organization must complete an application. Please see the Applying for Grants section for an application, or call 410-730-7840.

Will anyone from The Columbia Foundation visit our program?

Yes, members of the Board of Trustees make site visits to organizations that receive grants, and report back to the board.

Can our grant be renewed each year?

Many nonprofits receive ongoing funding from us. But renewed funding always depends on a reapplication and evaluation process.

Can we receive more than one grant in the same year?

Organizations may receive one project or operational grant within a calendar year, but not both. However, a second grant could be given if the organization meets our contingency grant requirements. Before applying for a contingency grant, be sure to consult with our President.

What kinds of organizations can receive funding?

We support organizations that contribute to the quality of life in Howard County in the areas of human services, the arts, education, and community affairs. The Columbia Foundation does not fund religious or sectarian activities, medical research, or requests from individuals.
