About Ball in the Mall
Ball in the Mall was originated in 1972 as a birthday celebration for the town of Columbia's fifth birthday. The first event consisted of several bands, snacks, and BYOB at a price of $8 per couple. It was such a success that Ball in the Mall was brought back to celebrate Columbia's 10th and 20th birthdays. The 20th celebration in 1987 was the last time the Ball in the Mall event took place. The theme was "That was Then...This is Now." The Mall in Columbia looks forward to resurrecting this community event to kick off the Mall's 40th anniversary with the theme "40 Reasons to Celebrate."
